History

Hillfoot Harmony has now been in existence for over 20 years.  Starting as a small group of singers (12 approx), the choir has grown and now has over 40 members.  Our founding director was a keen barbershop singer and part of an award winning larger chorus, but she decided to start her own chorus in her home town of Dollar.  The chorus developed and became a member of the Sweet Adelines International organisation which promotes the barbership style of singing throughout the world.  Part of being a member was attending the annual competition held in many locations throughout Britain - The Sage in Newcastle and the Birmingham Symphony Hall, to name but a few.  The chorus also took part in other competitions travelling on occasions to Ireland.  In addition to these events, the chorus also sang for events raising money for charity as well as funding for attendance at competition.  Our founding director retired from her duties in 2021, and since then we have been led by Michael Cameron-Longden who is a professional musician.  The chorus now singings a wider variety of music and has moved away from barbershop style, although still singing 4 part accapella.
